Kerr Lighting is a company that supplies the landscaping and building community with a unique set of products that are quickly becoming a fixture in many home designs. The company is based in Smiths Falls, Ontario, Canada.
In the Spring of 1993 Glenn and Melanie Kerr found themselves like a lot of other Canadians, recently unemployed. They took on as many small jobs as they could to pay their mortgage and look after their children. In the fall as bills piled up they were working on a landscape job that required low voltage lighting. Melanie came up with an idea Glenn thought could never be accomplished. Hence the birth of the "Paver Light". They knew they were on to something good, but were unsure how to proceed. Glenn soon became obsessed with the new idea and after many sleepless nights and terrible fiberglass fumes eminating from their basement workshop a prototype was created. Patents were applied for soon after that.
While working out of a basement office in their home, the Kerr's began to market the one and only "Paver Light" to manufacturers of interlocking brick. Although the brick manufacturer's loved their product, trying to sell an electrical fixture to the "cement" industry proved harder than they had anticipated.
They knocked on a lot of doors and soon had a few distributors who liked their personal approach of direct selling; husband and wife traveling across the US and Canada promoting a very unique and desirable products. The hard work has paid off as the company continues to expand its market.
The "Deck Light" soon followed the birth of the "Paver Light".The Deck Light was like its predecessor in that it was also a flush mounted light, but was created for wooden applications with a lip to keep it secure in any deck, dock or porch.
Kerr Lighting holds patents in both US and Canada for the Paver Light and the Deck Light. They are the first fixture of their kind in the world. Kerr Lighting has numerous dealers in the US, Canada, Australia, Puerto Rico and the Cayman Islands.
The Year 2003 marks the ninth year for Paver and Deck Lights. They have proven themselves to stand up in conditions from the harshest Canadian Winters to sand storms in Oman and the heat of California. They work on a 12 volt system and are very safe and inexpensive to operate. Kerr Lighting systems have been guiding home owners and their guests into their driveways, through pathways and walkways around pools and patios for 9 years, enhancing the beauty of their landscape, while deterring theft and adding value to the consumer's property.
